Twenty Thousand Miles to See A Tree: An Around the World Bicycle Journey

Learn how a woman in her forties goes from part-time cyclist to a full-time world traveler.

“The decision” to make a lifestyle change can come from “anywhere”. In Cindie’s case it was her husband Tim’s dream to see the world by bicycle. Once Cindie came on board there was no stopping their momentum.

Just six months after 9/11, Cindie and Tim set off from their Prescott, Arizona home with an endless summer as their only goal. Highlights of the eight-and-a-half-year-long journey included visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, witnessing a fire walking ceremony in Malaysia, and riding across the top of Australia from Cairns to Kakadu National Park. Low points included a bike crash in the middle of nowhere, getting parasites, and shingles.

Tim and Cindie cycled over thirty thousand miles through twenty-three countries on four continents. Along the way Cindie came face-to-face with her greatest fears, enjoyed the freedom of being a nomad, and witnessed the grueling hardships people have to endure.

The lessons from the road changed Cindie’s life forever. It wasn’t until Cindie stopped traveling in 2010 that she had time to reflect on what she saw and experienced in total while she made the world her home.
